(1) In Mark 1:9-11 Jesus receives holy spirit from his father in heaven:
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw
the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.
In this moment the spirit of God descends upon Jesus and God speaks the words:
"You Are My Beloved Son, with you I am well pleased".
Here we have the litereal Heavenly Father God clearly say Jesus is his son. This passage alone should put to rest any notion of Jesus being God.
(2) In Colossians 1:15 Jesus is described as the image of God:
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
Here Jesus is described as being the first of God's creation. He came to exist before all other things that God made. He was created in the image of the
most high invisible God which is why Jesus told his desciples in John 14:8
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father
.
(3) In John 1:14 Jesus is described as the son of God:
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Here the scripture makes it clear that Jesus is (the first of God's creations) and (the first human son born from God in heaven).
(4) In John 14:6 Jesus reveals the only path to God is through him.
Jesus said to him: I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
When Jesus say's
no one comes to the father except through me
, it means Jesus is above all of God's creation but not above God,
nevertheless we must invoke the name of Jesus in prayer in order to be received into God's grace.
(5) In John 14:28 Jesus reveals the father is greater than he.
You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I
Let's break down the phrase above into two parts:
"I am going to the father"
(Jesus is saying he's going to his father God in heaven)
"for the father is greater than I"
(Jesus makes it clear that God the father is greater than Jesus the son).
At no time does Jesus seek to put himself above God, and here he makes it clear God the father is greater than himself.
Here's one last thing to consider:
If Jesus was God do you really think he'd pray worship to himself? That's not likely, God is not a psychopath.
