Many Christian's today cite Hebrews 1:8 as proof Jesus is God. However Hebrews 1:8 has been revealed to be a mis-translation by several Christian authorities listed at this page bottom. Nevertheless, let us examine the scripture for clarity about the role of Jesus.

We as Christians must ensure that what we preach as gospel is consistent with God's holy scriptures. Many Christians point to the books of John and Hebrews as proof that Jesus is God. Therefore, let's examine both Hebrews and the book of John to validate if the bible tells us Jesus is Most High Almighty God.

We read in the Gospel of John and in Hebrews where it is written:

"I and my Father are one"
(John 10:29-30)John 10:29-30 KJV My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

"Whoever has seen me has seen the Father"
(John 14:8-9)John 14:8-9 ESV Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us. Jesus said to him, Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, Show us the Father.

"The son is the radiance of God's glory"
(Hebrews 1:3)Hebrews 1:3 NIV The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven

Jesus Is A Reflection Of The Most High God

In the above examples, we see how scripture is written in what appears as absolute terms. However, what we might not see is the "double-meaning" in the words.

For example:

In John 10:29-30 when Jesus said "I and my father are one"
he's not saying he's God, he's saying both he and God are perfect spirit reflections of each other.

In John 14:8-9 when Jesus said "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father"
which means Jesus was created in God's exact image so that seeing one is equivalent to seeing the other.

Hebrews 1:3 says "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being"
Let's analyse this statement which has two parts. First, it says Jesus is the radiance of God's glory which means Jesus in spirit form eminates God's reflection more brightly than any other angel in heaven. Second, it says Jesus is the exact representation of God's being but serves under God's authority
(Matthew 20:28).Matthew 20:28 NASB just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Five Places We Clearly Learn Jesus Is God's Son

(1) In Mark 1:9-11 Jesus receives holy spirit from his father in heaven:

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.

In this moment the spirit of God descends upon Jesus and God speaks the words:

"You Are My Beloved Son, with you I am well pleased".

Here we have the litereal Heavenly Father God clearly say Jesus is his son. This passage alone should put to rest any notion of Jesus being God.

(2) In Colossians 1:15 Jesus is described as the image of God:

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Here Jesus is described as being the first of God's creation. He came to exist before all other things that God made. He was created in the image of the most high invisible God which is why Jesus told his desciples in John 14:8 Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.

(3) In John 1:14 Jesus is described as the son of God:

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Here the scripture makes it clear that Jesus is (the first of God's creations) and (the first human son born from God in heaven).

(4) In John 14:6 Jesus reveals the only path to God is through him.

Jesus said to him: I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

When Jesus say's no one comes to the father except through me, it means Jesus is above all of God's creation but not above God, nevertheless we must invoke the name of Jesus in prayer in order to be received into God's grace.

(5) In John 14:28 Jesus reveals the father is greater than he.

You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I

Let's break down the phrase above into two parts:
"I am going to the father" (Jesus is saying he's going to his father God in heaven)
"for the father is greater than I" (Jesus makes it clear that God the father is greater than Jesus the son).

At no time does Jesus seek to put himself above God, and here he makes it clear God the father is greater than himself.

Here's one last thing to consider:
If Jesus was God do you really think he'd pray worship to himself? That's not likely, God is not a psychopath.

Sources That Reveal Hebrews 1:8 Is A Mis-Translation

There are many (including Pastors) who cite Hebrews 1:8 as proof that Jesus is God. The same people who believe this ignores where scripture cites the term “Son of God” 76 times { 65 times by Jesus }, and where Jesus proclaimed that God was his father 54 times. There are also 17 recorded instances of Jesus praying to (God the father).

The sources below show the translation error made from Latin to English in Hebrews 1:8.

In Summary

Not anywhere in the bible does it say (Jesus is God). If you preach or teach Jesus is God you commit blasphemy against God Almighty from which there is no forgiveness. You will not be able to defend yourself by pleading (well the bible says) because the bible never proclaims Jesus is God.

"Glory Be To Yahweh, God Almighty Forever, Amen"
